But Here Is the Good News

This series is not about exposing lies so we can sit underneath guilt.

It is about replacing lies with truth so we can become free.

Jesus did not say, “Know everything you have done wrong, and you will be free.”

He said:

“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32

That means there is hope.

We do not have to remain prisoners of our emotions.

We do not have to remain prisoners of our past.

We do not have to remain prisoners of our circumstances.

We do not have to remain prisoners of another person’s behavior.

And we certainly do not have to remain prisoners of lies we have believed for years.

Bring the Lie Into the Light

Freedom begins when we become willing to examine what is happening inside our hearts and minds.

We can stop and ask:

What am I believing right now?

Is it actually true?

What does God’s Word say?

What would obedience look like if I believed God instead of this thought?

These questions may not always be comfortable.

Sometimes the truth exposes something we would rather avoid.

Sometimes it reveals a thought we have carried for years.

Sometimes it challenges the way we have understood ourselves, our circumstances, or even other people.

But truth does not expose us so that God can shame us.

Truth brings what is hidden into the light so God can begin to transform it.

We Do Not Have to Believe Every Thought

One of the most important things we can learn is that not every thought deserves our agreement.

A thought may feel true without actually being true.

An emotion may be strong without being an accurate reflection of reality.

A painful experience may influence what we believe without defining what God says about us.

This is why we need God's Word.

We do not measure truth by how strongly we feel something.

We do not measure truth by how many people agree with us.

We do not measure truth by what happened to us yesterday.

We measure truth by what God has said.

Transformation Begins With Believing God

The questions we ask matter because what we believe influences how we live.

If we believe the lie that we are worthless, we may live as though our lives have no value.

If we believe the lie that we are unforgivable, we may hide from God instead of running toward Him.

If we believe the lie that we have to control everything, we may live constantly anxious and exhausted.

If we believe the lie that someone else's behavior determines our worth, we may spend our lives trying to earn approval.

If we believe the lie that our past defines us, we may never recognize the new life God is creating in us.

But when God's truth replaces those lies, something begins to change.

We begin to see differently.

We begin to respond differently.

We begin to make different choices.

We begin to walk in greater freedom.

Transformation begins when our hearts begin agreeing with God instead of the lies that have controlled us.

Freedom Does Not Require Perfect Circumstances

We can easily believe that we will finally have peace when everything around us changes.

We may think:

“I will be okay when this situation is over.”

“I will have peace when that person changes.”

“I will trust God when I understand what He is doing.”

“I will feel secure when life finally becomes stable.”

But freedom does not begin when everybody around us changes.

It does not begin when our circumstances finally become comfortable.

It does not begin when life becomes fair.

Freedom begins when we choose to trust God's truth even when life does not look the way we hoped it would.

“Lord, I Choose to Believe You”

There will be moments when God's truth is difficult to accept.

There may be times when obedience requires us to surrender something we desperately want to hold onto.

There may be times when forgiveness feels impossible.

There may be times when trusting God feels frightening.

There may be times when the truth requires us to admit that we were wrong.

But faith is not simply believing God when His truth agrees with what we want.

Faith says:

“Lord, even when Your truth is difficult, I choose to believe You.”

That is where transformation begins.

The Journey Ahead

Over the next ten lessons, we are going to uncover ten lies that can quietly control our thinking, relationships, emotions, choices, and spiritual lives.

We will bring each lie into the light.

We will examine what it promises.

We will look honestly at where it leads.

And most importantly, we will replace it with the truth of God’s Word.

This will not be about pointing fingers.

It will not be about creating shame.

It will not be about pretending that change is easy.

It will be about allowing God to search our hearts, expose what is false, and teach us to recognize what is true.

Because sometimes the lies we believe have been with us for so long that we no longer recognize them as lies.

But God can reveal them.

God can replace them.

God can renew our minds.

And God can lead us into freedom.

God's Truth Leads Us Home

The enemy wants us trapped in lies.

Lies about who we are.

Lies about God.

Lies about our past.

Lies about our future.

Lies about our relationships.

Lies about our circumstances.

But Jesus came to lead us into truth.

We do not have to remain prisoners of the lies we have believed for years.

We can bring them before God.

We can test them against His Word.

We can surrender the thoughts that do not agree with Him.

We can learn to recognize His truth.

And we can begin walking in the freedom Christ offers.

Because God’s truth does not imprison us.

God’s truth leads us home.

Scripture to Carry With You

John 8:32

“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Romans 12:2

God transforms us as our minds are renewed, helping us recognize His will instead of conforming to the patterns around us.

Questions to Begin the Journey

What lie have I believed about myself that God’s Word does not agree with?

What lie have I believed about God?

What lie has been influencing my emotions, relationships, choices, or spiritual life?

Am I willing to allow God's Word to challenge something I have believed for a long time?

What would change if I truly believed God instead of the lie?

A Prayer for the Journey

Lord, show me the lies I have believed.

Give me courage to face them honestly and humility to allow Your Word to correct me.

Help me recognize the difference between what feels true and what is actually true.

Renew my mind.

Change the way I think.

Change the way I respond.

Change the way I see myself, others, and my circumstances.

When Your truth is difficult, help me choose You anyway.

Replace every lie with Your truth and lead me into the freedom You have promised.

Amen.

Truth to Carry With You

I do not have to be controlled by every thought I think or every lie I have believed.

I can bring my thoughts into the light of God's Word.

I can choose truth even when truth is difficult.

I can trust God even when my circumstances have not changed.

And I can walk forward knowing that God’s truth leads me home.
